2K games have announced WWE 2K Battlegrounds, dubbed as “a completely new WWE gaming experience that will feature arcade-style action and over-the-top Superstar designs, environments and moves.” If The Rock launching John Cena into an oversized alligator isn’t over the top enough, then I don’t know what is.
You can check out the teaser trailer below:
WWE 2K Battlegrounds will be developed by Saber Interactive, the same developers behind the arcade style NBA 2K Playgrounds, a fun but grindy take on their annual NBA offering.
Along with this, 2K have also announced that they will not be releasing a WWE 2K game for this year, owing to the fact that they have acknowledged the comments and suggestions of the fans about wanting more from the franchise, making the following official statement:
All of that being said, we hear you and we know you want more from the franchise, so here’s what we’re going to do: we are applying what we’ve learned to the next WWE 2K simulation game with a renewed focus on quality and fun. As part of that commitment, we are extending the production timeline and will not be releasing a WWE 2K simulation game in 2020 (T2 fiscal year 2021). We want to ensure the development team at Visual Concepts can create a great game that will entertain grizzled WWE 2K veterans, as well as newcomers who want to climb through the ropes and step into the ring for the very first time.
We gave a particularly scathing review on WWE2K20, pointing out the extreme lack of polish and bug fixing that the game had when it first released.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds is scheduled to release this fall, no exact date was announced by 2K during this press release.
