August 2021 Game Releases – Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, No More Heroes III and Psychonauts 2!

Compared to a surprisingly loaded July, and while the August 2021 Game Releases are a bit tame in comparison, there are a few big names that a lot of gamers should look forward to.

The much-awaited No More Heroes III graces the Nintendo Switch, Jin Sakai continues his journey in Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, and Double Fine’s Psychonauts 2 finally makes its long-awaited return.

There’s a bit of everything for everyone, so let’s get right to it!

August 2021 Game Releases

The Falconeer: Warrior Edition / Edge of the World DLC

Release Date: August 5, 2021
Platform: Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series

The Xbox exclusive BAFTA award-nominated open-world aerial traversal action-adventure (whew) is coming to most platforms this August, while Xbox will be receiving Edge of the World DLC. It’s an innovative indie title that subverts the normal open-world experience by providing a different approach. It’s definitely for those who want something new in their open-world fare.

Hades

Release Date: August 13, 2021
Platform: PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, Xbox One

The multi-awarded god-like rogue-like (and my personal 2020 game of the year) finally releases on consoles this August! Experience the magic for yourself in stunning 4K/60fps. You’re gonna keep dying, you may as well make it look great.

Humankind

Release Date: August 17, 2021
Platform: PC, iOS, Stadia

For those looking for an intensive strategy game along the lines of Civilization, Humankind‘s got you covered! Take your civilization throughout history from the classic era to the futuristic era, expand your cities, build your wonders, and make deals with other civilizations to build allies or challenge them at the right time. While it is only currently available on PC or if you have the Stadia, it’d be something to look forward to if it comes to consoles in the future.

12 Minutes

Release Date: August 19, 2021
Platform: PC, Xbox Series, Xbox One

One of our most anticipated indies from Annapurna Interactive. Time loops are the in thing these days and watch how this interactive thriller unfolds for the next twelve minutes. Featuring an all-star cast of James McAvoy (X-Men First Class), Daisy Ridley (The Last Jedi), and Willem Dafoe (Spiderman), we can’t wait to play out the many different iterations that would break out of the loop as we play through this struggle by the main character.

Pick of the Month 1: Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut

https://youtu.be/A5gVt028Hww

Release Date: August 20, 2021
Platform: PS5, PS4

This title needs no introduction as this GOTY contender is a much-beloved crowd-pleaser that is quite possibly every other person’s GOTY for 2020. To add to Jin’s much-celebrated journey, this Director’s Cut adds more story content, opening up a brand new area, Iki Island. What I’m most excited about is the Japanese language sync is added for a better appreciation of the Kurosawa version.

Hoa

Release Date: August 21, 2021
Platform: Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, PC

A gorgeous Ghibli-inspired fantasy platformer from Southeast Asia, Hoa reminds me of Ori and the Blind Forest but more on the meditative scale rather than the intensive personal drama of the previous platformer. It’ll be interesting to see what the final build of the game would look like and we’ll see it come on several platforms this month.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite

https://youtu.be/yUusSnc_8hU

Release Date: August 24, 2021
Platform: PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, Xbox One, PC

It’s been a while since we’ve seen an update of Aliens Fireteam Elite, but after the title has skipped the entirety of E3 and made an announcement roughly a week later and release date to boot, this is cause for a celebration. Fulfilling the promise of releasing in the Summer, August would be a great time to drop this exciting co-op shooter featuring our favorite killing machines. Hoping this would capture the spirit of Aliens the same way Alien Isolation captured the original Ridley Scott classic.

Pick of the Month 2: Psychonauts 2

https://youtu.be/4CzPSCMcK8Q

Release Date: August 25, 2021
Platform: Xbox Series, Xbox One, PC

The sequel to Double Fine’s classic, Psychonauts 2 is a surreal action-adventure platformer where the fate of the world is in your hands as you explore your own mind and battle the challenges within. Anything goes in this zany adventure where you could be playing a 3D action combat one minute and the next, the entire game board is a pinball game.

No More Heroes III

Release Date: August 27, 2021
Platform: Nintendo Switch

Aliens have invaded the world and have hosted a martial arts tournament to decide its fate. It’s up to Travis Touchdown to earn enough money through odd jobs to pay off the entry fee to this tournament to do what he’s meant to do. A much-awaited sequel to round off the No More Heroes trilogy, No More Heroes 3 is what every fan of the series has been waiting for.

Soup Pot

https://youtu.be/q5EbS-UzJk4

Release Date: TBC August 2021
Platform: Xbox One, Xbox Series

Chikon Club’s follow-up to the cult classic Putahe Ng Ina Mo, Soup Pot makes its way to the Xbox under its ID@Xbox brand. Calling it the Dark Souls of cooking sims, improvise your way into creating delicious meals and posting it on your fictional social media account for the lolz. The five-second rule does apply.

That’s it for the top August 2021 Game Releases, are you looking forward to anything on the list?
