Mat Piscatella of the NPD group has retracted its initial statement claiming that Elden Ring ranked among the top 10 best selling games in US history.
“Because the ranked charts do not include the full history for all titles and all platforms – across both physical and digital sales – this note was worded too definitively for what is an incomplete comparable universe.”

Elden Ring, the title from Bandai Namco and FromSoftware that took the industry by storm earlier this year, has become one of the best-selling premium games in U.S. history.
According to Mat Piscatella of the NPD Group, Elden Ring not only repeated as the best-selling game of June 2022, but has also gone on to be the best-selling game of 2022 so far. Its sales performance was so good that the 4 out of 5 months that it was out in the market, it has placed first in dollar sales, leading it to become one of the 10 best-selling premium games in U.S. history.
Bandai Namco’s last published sales report for Elden Ring was 13.4 million units as of March 31, 2022.
Other titles that made waves in the month of June were Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (#2), Mario Strikers: Battle League (#3), Overwatch (#5), Final Fantasy VII Remake (#9), Demon Slayer The Hinokami Chronicles (#14), and The Quarry (#19).
