Final Fantasy XVI rumored to have some form of PlayStation exclusivity, already in development

If the Final Fantasy VII Remake timed exclusivity was any indication, then the latest entry in the main line Final Fantasy series may follow suit if proven to be true.

A user by the name of Navtra has posted an intriguing tidbit on the ResetERA forums, stating that the latest Final Fantasy game is already in development and that it was supposed to have been announced last June during the

The statement in full reads as follows:

lol yeah. XVI is real. It was supposed to get announced in June’s event. It’s supposedly closer than most people would think. It has some kind of PS5 exclusivity (it was vague back then but it seems to be full timed exclusivity now). And I have no idea why they haven’t announced it yet.

Surely, rumors like these carry little weight, especially if it just came from random netizen, but Navtra has made a couple of previous predictions that could lend credence to this rumor. A previous post places some of his predictions for the PS5 games showcase to be correct and along with it, a mention of an “Avengers Exclusive DLC”, which we now know to be the Spider-Man.

Furthering the possible validity is the backing of a forum moderator named Transistor, saying that the forum “staff has been provided evidence that this user indeed has knowledge into such subjects.“, possibly implying that the rumor could actually be true.

If the next Final Fantasy game does go this route, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise due to the same conditions surrounding the FF7 Remake release. While fans from other platforms can obviously wait it out, it could be the edge Sony needs to draw potential customers to their side of the fence before the next generation consoles fully launch later in the year.

No official word from either Square or Sony has been made about this topic, even the existence of Final Fantasy XVI is still in question, but in case it proves to be true, this could be potentially big news.
