Kojima Productions Threatens Legal Action for False Links to Shinzo Abe’s Assassination

Kojima Productions has issued a strong statement about personalities linking Hideo Kojima to the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Kojima Productions said that it “strongly condemns the spread of fake news and rumors that convey false information. We do not tolerate such libel and will consider taking legal action in some cases.”

This comes after a joke on 4Chan spread like wildfire that Kojima was behind the assassination which was then relayed by a French Comedian and subsequently retweeted by far-right French Politician Damien Rieu, who took the joke as real.

Rieu has since deleted the tweets and has apologized to Kojima and fans of Metal Gear, saying he was wrong to not have checked before sharing.

It doesn’t stop there, because a Greek news broadcast also highlighted Kojima, showing images of the game industry veteran beside a portrait of Che Guevarra.

Kojima has yet to make a personal statement about the incident.

Former Japan PM Shinzo Abe was assassinated while giving a speech in the city of Nara. The suspect who fired a homemade weapon has since been abducted by the police.
