The next generation of consoles are finally here, and if you’ve been lucky enough, you might have been playing one (or both) of these fine machines already since last week! For the folks over in the Philippines, we’ll still have to wait a bit longer for a taste of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
As the days and weeks go by, we’ll be seeing more and more numbers about how both consoles have fared during launch day but for Japan, the numbers are already in care of a report from Famitsu.
Of course, coming from Famitsu, these numbers are Japan only, and will surely vary from region to region. As a summary by Nibel, the results show the following numbers:
- PlayStation 5 – 118,000 (in 4 days)
- Xbox Series – 21,000 (in 6 days)
- Spider-Man: Miles Morales – 18,640
- Demon’s Souls – 18,607
As a comparison, the PlayStation 4 sold over 322,000, which may seem like the PlayStation 5 flopped hard, but we also have to consider that if it weren’t for shortages in supply for both consoles, these numbers would have been significantly bigger.
Interestingly, the Xbox Series, despite its seemingly low sales number, shows promising acceptability in Japan, which is a market that they’ve had trouble penetrating before, which just goes to show that the Xbox is truly on the rise for this generation and this low number is not as bad as it looks.
Worldwide sales numbers have yet to be revealed by either side and if it weren’t for the circumstances brought about by the pandemic, we would surely be seeing some record breaking numbers for sure. We’ll have to wait a bit more for an official tally, but it is safe to say that both Sony and Microsoft have produced some truly outstanding machines.
