Quake makes a return in 2021 with an enhanced re-release

Wait, what year is it? Announced during a special presentation on Quakecon2021, the classic shooter is back and looking better than ever as Quake sees an enhanced version release for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game is also backwards compatible with the PS5 and Xbox Series, with native versions on their way soon, and will be a free upgrade.

While waiting for the current-gen versions, one thing you won’t have to wait for is the actual game as it is now available digitally via PSN, Microsoft Store, and Steam.

For physical collectors, Limited Run Games will be releasing copies for the PS4 and Switch in standard and ultimate edition variants.

The Quake enhanced re-release will see a 4K with ultrawide resolution support boost, along with enhanced models, dynamic and colored lighting, anti-aliasing, cross-play support, and much more. The release will also see the inclusion of both the “The Scourge of Armagon” and “Dissolution of Eternity” expansion packs, as well as the “Dimension of the Past,” and the all-new “Dimension of the Machine” packs.

Online multiplayer (up to 8 players), local multiplayer (4-player split-screen), and co-op will also be available along with official mods like Quake64. The enhanced version will also support xCloud and will be coming to Game Pass for Xbox, and motion aiming for the Switch.

The Quake enhanced re-release is now available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with native PS5 and Xbox Series versions incoming.
