Returnal finally adds suspend cycle functionality and photo mode

Returnal is one of the best PS5 releases of the year and it gets even better with update 2.0, which is live now, adding a couple of highly requested features to the mix.

As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, Housemarque has added the Suspend Cycle functionality, letting you pick up right where you left off without losing progress. One of Returnal’s pain points was that players who didn’t have the time to finish a whole run are left to put their PS5’s in rest mode just to continue on another time. With the suspend cycle feature, that’s now being addressed but players must not think of it as a save game option.

The game will basically “create a single-use suspend point, and once you resume playing the suspend point is deleted and cannot be used again. Your game will continue directly from the moment you left it, and if you want to suspend the cycle again, your progress will be captured from that new point onwards.”

There are certain limitations in place though, as you cannot suspend the cycle during boss fights, cinematics, first-person sequences, and during combat.

Another feature that will be added along with update 2.0 is photo mode, letting you capture those intense in-game moments and we’re sure that we’ll be seeing a lot of fantastic shots in the days and weeks to come.

Returnal is now available for the PlayStation 5.
