September 2021 Game Releases – Deathloop, Tales of Arise, and Kena: Bridge of Spirits!

Despite some big-ticket titles last month like Hades and Ghost of Tsushima: Directors Cut, August was a rather tame month in terms of releases. That’s not the case this month, as the September 2021 Game Releases go into overdrive with a LOT of highly-anticipated titles.

The September 2021 Game Releases kicks off strong with the release of the much-awaited Tales sequel Tales of Arise on September 10. If that wasn’t big enough, Bethesda’s final game outside of its Microsoft exclusivity, Deathloop drops soon after.

It would be foolish to discount the rest of the September 2021 Game Releases as they range from remakes like Sonic Colors Ultimate to original sequels like Lost Judgment from SEGA. Also on the remakes and remasters front, Diablo 2 Resurrected finally drops as well as Death Stranding: Director’s Cut.

Without further ado, let’s check out some of the biggest September 2021 Game Releases.

September 2021 Game Releases

Sonic Colors Ultimate

Release Date: September 7, 2021
Platform: PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Switch

It’s going to be a while before the next big Sonic title, so to keep us in the loop, this Sonic remake definitely makes the wait worth it. SEGA wouldn’t come up empty for the blue blur on their 30th year anniversary, so bask in nostalgia and get colorful!

Tales of Arise

Release Date: September 9, 2021
Platform: PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Notice how many games release on September 10?!

The Tales games have come a long way since their debut back in 1995, but Tales of Arise is looking much different from its recent iterations with a more compelling story and a huge improvement in gameplay. Set in twin planets where mages are enslaved by a technologically superior civilization, these mages are now fighting back to break the chains of bondage.

Life is Strange: True Colors

Release Date: September 10, 2021
Platform: PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC

It’s quite exciting how Life is Strange has evolved throughout the years. Now that they’re dropping the episodic format, at least we’re getting a complete release from the get-go. While I’ll miss Dontnod’s meditative style, it would be a great addition to the franchise that has captured our collective imaginations since Max’s original adventure back in 2015.

Lost in Random

Release Date: September 10, 2021
Platform: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC

Lost in Random looks like an intriguing prospect, where players control Even across the Kingdom of Random and its six shadowy realms to take on a courageous quest to save her sister, Odd, from the evil queen.

NBA 2K22

Release Date: September 10, 2021
Platform: PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PC

It’s not September until we get our yearly update of 2K Sports’ NBA title. Featuring Luka Doncic as well as other variant covers including Kareem Abdul Jabar and Kevin Durant, the game is sure to brighten up a baller’s month.

Pick of the Month 1: Deathloop

Release Date: September 14, 2021
Platform: Playstation 5, PC

One of the last Bethesda titles that will launch on a Sony platform, Deathloop is one of my anticipated titles of 2021. Previously delayed, this shooter from Arkane is stylized, darkly humorous, and introduces an interesting premise of an assassin’s version of Groundhog Day. Arkane can do no wrong, and Deathloop is looking to continue the tradition.

Eastward

Release Date: September 16, 2021
Platform: Switch and PC

One of the highly-anticipated non first-party release for the Switch, Eastward will see John the Miner and mysterious girl Sam as they travel across the decaying continent through an interconnected railway filled with intriguing characters and the anime style inspiring classic anime from the 90s.

Pick of the Month 2: Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Release Date: September 21, 2021
Platform: PS5, PS4, PC

Touted as an “indie” game for the PlayStation, what’s been teased on the trailer boasts of a robust fantasy title with more polish compared to other games in recent memory. We follow our titular character as she battles the imbalance in her world, and is looking like another great addition to add to our PlayStation library.

Diablo II: Resurrected

Release Date: September 23, 2021
Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Switch.

This game needs no introduction as it became a staple of now-dads back during college. With updated visuals and remade cinematics, Diablo II: Resurrected is sure to drain more hours of our life once again. Are we ready to go back to hell this September? Can I get a Hell Yeah?

Lost Judgment

Release Date: September 24, 2021
Platform: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One

This surprise drop from Sega features the sequel to the beloved side story in the Ryu ga Gotoku shared universe. Return once again into the shoes of Yagami as he investigates a new case where the stakes are higher, the fights more explosive, and hopefully sticks to the gangster drama that Ryu ga Gotoku is known for.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6Yoozt03sc

Release Date: September 24, 2021
Platform: Playstation 5

Death Stranding is the latest to get the Director’s Cut treatment and this content heavy title will headline new features including cargo catapults and racing tracks to add more to the already packed title featuring the mind-bending reality of Sam Porter Bridges.

Astria Ascending

Release Date: September 30, 2021
Platform: PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

With a team made of Final Fantasy alums and an engaging non-linear JRPG story, Astria Ascending is looking to be one of the big JRPG titles to release this month. It’s filled with everything a JRPG fan is looking for an instant classic, from a compelling story, an intriguing crafting system, and the mini-game J-Ster attempting to make it to the higher echelons of mini-game glory held by Gwent and the almighty Triple Triad.
