XCOM: Chimera Squad announced for a PC release on April 24

A totally new stand alone game is the next outing for the XCOM franchise. Entitled XCOM: Chimera Squad, the game takes place after the events of the XCOM 2 DLC “War of the Chosen” and will be releasing on April 24, 2K has announced.

XCOM: Chimera Squad introduces a lot of changes that may surprise the XCOM fans of old. Chimera Squad will be employing a set squad of agents consisting of Humans and Aliens, each having unique abilities which can be used in combination with each other.

The biggest change of all is the removal of the permadeath mechanic, a defining system from the previous titles. If a squad member takes a fatal hit, they’ll enter the “bleeding out” phase and you’ll have a few turns to assist them or risk restarting the mission again.

Still present in Chimera Squad is what’s called “Breach Mode”, which is basically the pre-mission planning phase where you’ll be able to assign members different entry points in the map, adding a strategic layer to the game.

Early buyers of the game will be met with a special introductory price of $10 (around PHP500) and will return to its original retail price of $20 (around PHP1,000) on May 1.
