Sony PlayStation introduces a DualShock 4 back button attachment aimed for competitive use
In a surprise announcement, Sony has introduced a back button attachment for the DS4 Controller, adding 2 more buttons ergonomically placed at the back via the headphone jack. This is a nod to the more competitive breed of controllers like the SCUF Vantage and similar also to the Elite series from Xbox.
Check it out below:
The attachment is small and sleek, sitting nicely on the bottom part of the controller once connected via the headphone jack. Both buttons act as sort of “paddles” and will give you 2 more buttons if you feel that the current set isn’t enough for your needs. Whether it’s a dedicated throw button for your fighting games or a sprint button if you’re not comfortable with pressing L3, these 2 new buttons can be mapped to different actions as needed.
As mentioned on the PlayStation Blog, the attachment features the following:
Responsive Back Buttons and High-fidelity OLED Screen: The two back buttons can map up to 16 different actions such as triangle, circle, R1 and R2 to name a few and provide amazing tactile feedback, so you can jump and slide without missing a beat. The attachment also features an integrated OLED display that provides real time information around button assignments.
Highly Configurable: A dedicated button allows you to remap back button inputs on the fly, so you are always prepared no matter what game you’re playing. Furthermore, you can save and choose up to three different profiles for use in various games and there is also a headset pass-through for connecting any 3.5mm wired headset to the controller.
Developed by PlayStation: The product is tested and approved for all of your favorite PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR titles, and is built with the ergonomics of the DS4 in mind.
Local release date for the attachment is still unknown but it will be launching in US and Canada first on January 23, 2020 for $29.99 ($39.99 Canadian) which is roughly around PHP1,500.
