Grand Theft Auto VI Will Reportedly Feature a Female Protagonist, Setting Based on Miami

Grand Theft Auto VI from Rockstar Games will reportedly feature a female lead, a big first for the series.

This is according to a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who cites people familiar with the development of the game, saying that the next game is code-named “Project Americas” and will have a Bonnie and Clyde-influenced story starring two lead characters, one of which is the aforementioned female protagonist who is Latina.

The report further states that the setting of Grand Theft Auto VI will be a fictionalized Miami that will “update over time” by adding new missions and cities on a regular basis. The direct effect of this, of course, is also to lessen the crunch from the developers as it reaches the final months of development.

Original plans for the game saw the possible inclusion of North and South America, and was supposed to be bigger than any GTA game.

In an attempt to overhaul the culture of Rockstar Games for the better, the game will be staying away from “punching down” or making jokes about marginalized groups, a stark departure from previous games.

Because of this shift in culture and the effort to change for the better, the studio has tried to take on a more “progressive and compassionate workplace,” resulting in higher morale and a much more conducive place to work in.

Fans looking forward to Grand Theft Auto VI will be waiting for quite a bit, and while the game has been in development in some form since way back in 2014, sources have indicated that the game is at least two years away, sometime in Take-Two’s 2024 fiscal year (April 2023 – March 2024).
