The Playstation 5 is going to be big, literally
We all remember that very first time the Playstation 5 was officially unveiled, like it was yesterday. Back in June, the world saw the console in all its black and white and futuristic glory. What we would also remember is all the memes that followed.
Sure it may be funny to see the Playstation 5 as a duck’s bill, Sauron’s Tower, or even a building, but who would have thought that the depictions of the console as a large structure were actually not THAT wrong.
Along with the price and release date reveal, we also now have the console’s actual dimensions, both for the Standard and Digital Editions. All we have to say is when you think the Playstation 5 is going to be big, that’s because it IS big.
The good folks at Kotaku sized up the PlayStation 5 with the next-gen Xboxes and wow the PS5 is HUGE. Check out the comparison below:
Coming in with dimensions of 390mm x 104mm x 260mm and weighing in at 4.5kg, the Playstation 5 is a heavy duty piece of hardware in the literal sense. Compared to the Xbox Series X, with dimensions of 301mm x 151mm x 151mm and weighs in at 4.4kg, the Playstation 5 is actually taller, longer and even slightly heavier. The Digital Edition, on the other hand, is a tad smaller and lighter, weighing in at 3.9kg but having a slightly slimmer profile at 390mm x 92mm x 260mm.
The Xbox Series S is really compact when compared to these other machines. Weighing in at 1.9kg and with 275mm x 65mm x 151mm dimensions, that is some serious engineering that the folks at Microsoft conjured up and is actually very impressive.
For good measure, you can also see how the PlayStation 5 stacks up to its current generation PS4 counterparts.
You’ll definitely need a lot of space for this big boy when the PlayStation 5 releases on November 12 in selected territories and November 19 worldwide.
