Xbox TV App may come in the next 12 months, Phil Spencer says
If things go the way of Phil Spencer, you may not even need an Xbox or a PC to play Xbox games.
In an interview with The Verge, Spencer goes on to say that a dedicated Xbox app for TV sets is a very real possibility, and it could very well happen “…in the next 12 months. I don’t think anything is going to stop us from doing that.” Console gaming without an actual console? Sounds juicy!
Spencer continued to say that “the amount of compute capability in my home has increased with the number of streaming signals that have come in, not decreased. I think gaming will be one of those things as well.”
Microsoft has been a huge proponent of Cloud gaming, with their very own Project xCloud leading the way. And when you consider the breadth of content that Microsoft has with Game Pass, something that was already good but now bolstered with the acquisition of Bethesda and the inclusion of EA Play, this vision of allowing you to play almost anywhere under the Xbox ecosystem is something very real and very appealing, all for an affordable price.
Locally, there are many things to consider with this setup, the biggest thing being your internet connection. With consoles reaching the capability to play games at 4K and 60-120fps, your connection must be robust enough to handle all that data that will allow you to enjoy the experience.
Will this development finally entice you to hop on the Xbox bandwagon?
