Tencent has announced that Honor of Kings has been awarded Google Play’s Best Game of 2024 in Southeast Asia.

Following its successful launch earlier this year, Honor of Kings has become the world’s most-played wMOBA because of its fierce, fast-paced 5v5 battles, a striking roster of legendary heroes inspired by different SEA cultures, and variety of exciting game modes to suit both casual and competitive players.

across Southeast Asia that has embraced Honor of Kings since its launch and made it one of
the most popular games in the region,” said Director of Honor of Kings Dean Huang.

Since its global launch, Honor of Kings has been downloaded by over 50 million players worldwide and has provided extensive localization for its international players, which includes providing guides, resources, and tips across its official platforms to educate players on the game.

In addition to international IP content, the game has developed new heroes and in-game activities tailored to regional and local communities. Notable examples include the Lee Chong Wei campaign in Malaysia, featuring the first-ever Malaysian professional sports athlete in a mobile game, and the Silat-themed skin, marking the debut of the traditional Southeast Asian martial art in a mobile game. Last month, popular Filipino content creator Chooxtv was immortalized in the game as a selectable announcer pack.

Responding to Indonesian players’ desire to see Garuda, a cultural and national symbol, a co-creation event was launched to invite players to share their vision for the new hero’s design. Consequently, Garuda Khageswara will be introduced exclusively to the Indonesian market in early 2025, reflecting the games’ commitment to its community.

In addition to in-game activities, there are also thrilling esports events worldwide to foster community engagement and fan support. The Honor of Kings Invitational Series began the year with Season 1 in Istanbul, Türkiye, where Vivo Keyd Stars emerged victorious. Season 2 attracted fans in Malaysia, with LGD Malaysia (now Black Shrew Esports) triumphing.

The Esports World Cup followed, featuring a prize pool of USD 3,000,000 at the Honor of Kings Invitational Midseason 2024 in Riyadh, where the KPL Dream Team made a significant impact. The 2024 Honor of Kings Championship concluded in October in Jakarta, with Black Shrew Esports claiming the title of the best HOK team.
