Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection PC Review

Hot on the heels of the recently released Spider-Man Remastered for the PC now comes another classic that is making its debut on a system that’s not a PlayStation. It’s no secret that Sony is slowly changing its tune about PC releases, especially regarding their coveted exclusives. Nathan Drake is up next with the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.

Initially released for the PS5 early this year, the Legacy of Thieves Collection brings together Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in one unmissable package. This time around, leveraging the power of the PC, the adventures of Drake and the gang are sure to look better at every turn.

Golden Requirements

For starters, here are the features and system requirements for the game:

• 4K and Ultra-Wide Monitor Support
• Adjustable Texture and Model Quality, Anisotropic Filtering, Shadows, Reflections, and Ambient Occlusion
• All new controls and customization options, including DualSense Controller Support
• AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution 2 support
• Reimagined UI, scale sliders, GPU and VRAM detection, Variable Load Speed, and much more.

For a game that can offer such scenic views, the 4K resolution coupled with ultra-wide monitor support and DualSense support can be enough reason for some players to take the plunge. PC enthusiasts can also look forward to a bunch of customization options that can take full advantage of their souped-up rigs.

Based on the list, the recommended system requirements for Legacy of Thieves Collection are a bit on the reasonable side, especially considering the CPU and GPU requirements. You’ll only need a GTX 1060 to run the game at 1080p and 30fps at high settings, which is enough to enjoy the game.

2 things stand out, as the storage requirements top off at a whopping 126 GB SSD and 16 GB of RAM. Both of these could sway some users, especially those with lower-specced rigs.

Should you want to take full advantage, Legacy of Thieves Collection can certainly push your rig to the limit. To make it run at 4K 60 FPS, an RTX 3080 card is recommended, so you’ll need to shell out a bit to see Drake in all his glory.

For comparison, Legacy of Thieves Collection for the PS5 has a fidelity mode that gives 4K 30 FPS, performance mode at 1440p 60 FPS, and a performance+ mode at 1080p 120 FPS. 1080p 30 FPS is not bad at all for recommended settings, considering that the PS4 Pro targets 1440p 30 FPS. The game remains enjoyable and looks amazing even at just the recommended settings.

Compared to Spider-Man Remastered for the PC, Legacy of Thieves Collection offers far fewer graphics and display sliders. Apart from the usual toggles like adjustable texture and model quality, anisotropic filtering, shadows, reflections, and ambient occlusion, the lack of more detailed options is very noticeable.

To make up for this, Legacy of Thieves Collection offers GPU and VRAM detection and management options along with AMD FSR 2, which uses cutting-edge algorithms to boost your framerates and deliver high-quality, high-resolution gameplay with compatible cards.

The game also accepts a wide range of peripherals, including RGB support for Razer Chroma-compatible devices, as well as for Logitech and Corsair devices.

Smooth and Steady

We tested the game with a fairly decent setup. We’d imagine that many players out there might have a similar setup, especially considering the prices of parts these days:

• Ryzen 5 5600x, 16 GB DDR4 3600 RAM, NVIDIA 1650, 1TB NVMe SSD, 27″ 1440p Monitor

I managed to maintain 40-50 FPS while playing the game in medium settings. Wide open areas paired with busy scenes can drop you to anywhere from 25–35 FPS, while more confined spaces will average at around 40–45.

During the first chase scene in the prison, despite a lot of gunfire, our framerate held steady at around 40, which is much less demanding compared to the wider spaces in the following chapters. The underwater scenes didn’t prove to be a problem as well, with frames holding steady at an average of 40.

Players will be able to utilize their DualSense controllers while playing Legacy of Thieves Collection, but the device-specific features will only be used when wired. In my experience, the haptics isn’t anything to write home about. Its subtle implementation makes you eager for more, and the adaptive triggers are mostly forgettable.

If you’re not taking advantage of the DualSense, playing Legacy of Thieves Collection with a mouse and keyboard setup is surprisingly competent. With full button mapping, you can choose to customize your experience, and since Uncharted (as a whole) is notorious for tough aiming when using a controller, the mouse does wonders during the tight moments when you really need a headshot to dispose of the troops.

We didn’t get to test out the ultrawide settings, but we’ll be sure to update the review when we do.

Overall, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is a competent port of the game, allowing PC players to finally experience some of the best adventures that the series has to offer. Even at medium settings, the visuals still stand out, reinforcing how good the game looked even years before.

What we liked:

• Nathan Drake and the gang are finally on PC
• Powerful rigs will see breathtaking results
• DualSense integration is ok

What we didn’t like:

• Heavy RAM and Storage requirements
• Fewer sliders and toggles compared to Spider-Man Remastered

Verdict: Buy It!

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is another great PC offering from Sony, and despite the game showing its age in some aspects, both titles are unmissable experiences that showcase the mastery of Naughty Dog in the field.

While the recommended settings are quite fair and manageable, the storage and RAM requirements are a bit on the heavy side, which is definitely a consideration for those looking to purchase the game. 30 FPS is certainly playable, but the best performance settings are locked behind pricey PC parts that can be surpassed with the simple purchase of a PS5 instead.

Despite that, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is certainly a game that deserves a spot in your library, especially considering that it contains 2 fantastic experiences in A Thief’s End and Lost Legacy. At a reasonable $49.99 price tag, PC players will finally get to know the magic behind Drake’s legendary exploits.
