CI Games has dropped a brand-new episode of its ongoing Lifting the Veil series, giving fans the deepest look yet at the brutal soulslike combat of Lords of the Fallen 2. Following its reveal at The Game Awards, the latest developer diary dives into expanded mechanics, new enemies, and the studio’s “player-first” philosophy.

Game director James Lowe, lead system designer Daniel Regan, producer Alex Harkin, and creative strategist Ryan Hill share insights into how the sequel pushes the franchise’s boundaries. The footage, taken from the alpha build, showcases what CI Games describes as “bolder, braver, and bloodier” gameplay.

Faster, Deadlier Combat

One of the biggest changes highlighted is the increased speed and maneuverability. Lampbearers can now charge into battle with more aggression, while players must manage larger areas of control, making combat a high-stakes dance with death.

The video also emphasizes a wider variety of combat options. Players can seamlessly swap between melee, ranged, and spellcasting, encouraging diverse strategies mid-fight. Heavy attacks now carry risk-reward decisions, forcing players to balance damage output with vulnerability.

Executions and Dismemberment

Adding to the franchise’s signature brutality, Lords of the Fallen 2 introduces graphic executions and dismemberment mechanics. These visceral finishers transform battlefields into blood-soaked arenas, reinforcing the game’s aggressive tone.

The sequel also promises an expanded roster of enemy types and jaw-dropping boss battles, designed to challenge even the most seasoned soulslike veterans. Players can tackle these encounters solo or in shared progression co-op, offering flexibility for different playstyles.

Lords of the Fallen 2 Release Window and Platforms

Set 1,000 years after the fall of the dark god Adyr, Lords of the Fallen 2 places players in a kingdom besieged by the dead realm of Umbral. As the Lampbearer, players must wield new weapons, spells, and executions to survive against eldritch horrors.
