Disco Elysium The Final Cut comes with new quests and other improvements
Disco Elysium The Final Cut is one of our anticipated titles coming out for 2021 and any news with regard to its release is very much welcome. In a recent interview by Push Square, ZA/UM’s Justin Keenan details some key developments with Disco Elysium The Final Cut.
While there’s a part of me that’s cautiously excited for this game to come out, a part of me expects a delay coming soon. However, it doesn’t seem to be the case as Keenan mentioned that the porting process has been “pretty smooth”.
Keenan mentions that the game features “new animations, new or improved character portraits, new sound and lighting effects” as their goal was “to feel natural and immersive as possible”. In doing so, they’ve also fully voiced this version, indeed adding to the immersiveness of the game. Porting the controls from a keyboard and mouse interface to a controller was considered a challenge, but since DIsco Elysium had rather simple controls, the team wanted to make the overall experience to feel natural.
As for new content, ZA/UM is introducing non-mainline quests called “political vision quests” to give context “behind the political posturing the protagonists engage in”. A lot of emphasis is given to the Thought Cabinet feature, so it would be nice to delve deeper into those topics. Engaging in these quests may have permanent changes to your UI, while having access to new items and characters, so I’m definitely looking forward to that.
Disco Elysium The Final Cut is set to release on PS4, PS5, iOS, and Stadia on an unconfirmed date in March 2021 and crossing my fingers that it doesn’t get delayed. It will also be available on Nintendo Switch and the Xbox One and Series X|S in the Summer.
