Sony acquires Returnal devs Housemarque

After being a household PlayStation name spanning multiple titles like Super Stardust HD, Resogun, and the hugely successful release that is Returnal, Sony has finally confirmed the acquisition of Housemarque.

This has been a long time coming, and none other than Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, welcomed the talented developers from Helsinki to the family. Hulst comments on the success of Returnal, saying that this “proves the studio is one with incredible vision, capable of creating memorable new games that resonate with our community.”

Ilari Kuittinen, managing director of Housemarque, shares the excitement, saying that “This gives our studio a clear future and a stable opportunity to continue delivering on gameplay centric approaches, while still experimenting with new methods of narrative delivery and pushing the boundaries of this modern artform.”

It would definitely be exciting to see what Housemarque can achieve after Returnal, as we’ve seen what they can do with full backing from PlayStation Studios. This can only mean good things, and we can’t wait to see more from them.
