New Lord of the Rings Game Coming From Private Division and Weta Workshop

Private Division and Wētā Workshop have announced a new publishing agreement that will see a new Lord of the Rings game that takes place in the Middle-earth universe.

Wētā Workshop founded a game division back in 2014 and will be handling development duties for the upcoming title, with a broad creative license that allows them to “interpret the underlying lore of the books.”

“It’s a privilege to create a new game set in Middle-earth, especially one that’s so different from what fans have played previously,” said Amie Wolken, Head of Interactive at Wētā Workshop. “As fans ourselves, we’re excited for gamers to explore Middle-earth in a way they never have before, and introduce new fans to the magic of The Lord of the Rings.”

Fans of the IP will have to wait as while no release date was announced, the title is still in early development and is expected to launch during Take-Two’s Fiscal Year 2024.

Private Division is best known for publishing such hits as OlliOlli World and the upcoming skater-shooter, Rollerdrome.
