Far Cry 6 won’t have ray tracing for consoles, exclusive to PC
Far Cry 6 is Ubisoft’s next big release, scheduled to launch on October 7, 2022. Leading up to launch, we find out a little bit more about the game and a big revelation that was recently uncovered was that ray tracing won’t be available for the PS5 and Xbox Series but will be a PC exclusive graphical feature.
According to an interview with Wccftech, lead programmer Stephanie Brenham mentions that “Ray tracing is a PC only feature. On console, our objective has been to take advantage of new hardware capabilities, optimizing performance targeting 4K and achieving 60 FPS, for instance, all while ensuring new game features, like our dynamic weather system, are supported on all platforms.”
Brenham continues to say that AMD FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) is another such feature that is exclusive to PC’s because it was developed in partnership with AMD for PC’s, allowing players to achieve higher resolutions with smooth frames.
While it seems that console players of Far Cry 6 may be getting the short end of the stick, Brenham has ensured players that console performance will still be very good thanks to the SSD’s, allowing for super-fast loading times and of course, 4K 60fps gameplay.
Far Cry 6 is scheduled to release on October 7 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC.
