Publisher CMD Studios and Developer Winter Crew have announced Fallen Tear: The Ascension, a narrative-focused 2D Metroidvania coming to PC via Steam. Further platforms have yet to be announced.

Winter Crew is a Philippines-based group of developers that is creating Fallen Tear as their first original video game. The team themselves are no stranger to game development, as they have worked with many international clients such as AAA gaming studios and animation studios.

Speaking to Gamespot, the characters in the game are inspired by Fullmetal Alchemist’s Seven Deadly Sins, while the game itself is inspired by various titles in the genre such as Ori, Hollow Knight, Blasphemous, and much more.

Winter Crew founder Stephen Manalastas says that the game will shift to an open-world experience after a certain point in the story, allowing players the freedom to explore and get lost in the world.

Players will also get to meet certain characters referred to as “Fated Bonds” that can be recruited to your party which will unlock the use of their abilities.

Along the way, bond with a multitude of fully-voiced characters to unlock new skills and abilities that will aid you in your battle through environments that constantly change and react to your choices – all in classic, hand-drawn animation.

A beautiful, yet dangerous open world awaits you. Raoah’s unique and interconnected biomes are filled with flora and fauna of all shapes and sizes. Battle through an onslaught of enemies, challenging puzzles, and constantly changing environments with friends who grow stronger with you on your journey.

SEEK AND FIND ALL THE FATED BONDS

Hira will not take this journey alone. Aiding him in his journey are the ‘Fated Bonds’, special characters who provide useful Talents when found. Gain their Trust to increase their effectiveness and unlock powerful ‘Ascensions’ – abilities tied to Hira’s mysterious origins.
