Google Stadia Shutting Down in January 2023

Google has announced that it is shutting down its cloud gaming service, Stadia, on January 18, 2023.

Players will have access to their libraries until the announced date, and while this sounds like a bad deal for those that have invested in the system, Google has made the decision to provide refunds for all hardware purchases made through the Google store. On top of that, all game and add-on content purchases made through the store will also be refunded.

“And while Stadia’s approach to streaming games for consumers was built on a strong technology foundation, it hasn’t gained the traction with users that we expected so we’ve made the difficult decision to begin winding down our Stadia streaming service,” says Phil Harrison, Vice President and General Manager.

The Google team has set up a FAQ page for further details about the refund process, game progress transfers, and more.
