Final Fantasy XVI’s Naoki Yoshida Clarifies PC Release

Final Fantasy XVI is launching on June 23 for the PS5, but discussions surrounding a PC release have been muddy at this point. Thanks to a series of previews and interviews, producer Naoki Yoshida has clarified the status of a PC version, saying that Final Fantasy XVI won’t be in six months after the PS5 release.

Speaking to the Japanese PlayStation Blog and translated by resident Twitter deals guy Wario64, Yoshida says that Final Fantasy XVI is a six-month limited-time exclusive on the PS5 and as such, has been fully optimized for the console to deliver the best gaming experience. That said, porting it to PC is a different story and makes it clear that “the PC version will not come out in half a year.”

Yoshida didn’t close out hope on an eventual PC release, and said that he would like to release a PC version at some point “so that everyone can play as many games as possible.” Even if that is the case, it would take some time.

“However, even if we start optimizing the PC version after the PS5 version comes out, we won’t be able to optimise it in half a year, so it won’t come out in a short span of half a year. I would like to release it eventually, and I think I will, but I am not at the stage where I can say when.”
