Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Main Story Will Take Around 40 Hours to Beat, Gondola Date Scene Teased
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been a long time coming, and fans of the ongoing remake trilogy are eager to find out what this next adventure will have in story for them. It’s been over 3 years since the release of the Remake, so hype is at an all-time high.
In an interview with Southeast Asian media, Director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed how long the game would take to beat if players were to just concentrate on the main storyline, saying that it would be slightly longer than the Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is set to be a massive outing compared to the Remake, touting a huge amount of side content that players can engage in. While the Remake took players around 30-35 hours to complete, this latest installment will take slightly longer, clocking in a 35 to just over 40 hours.
“In terms of the main content only in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, there’s a little more there than in the Remake, so it will probably take most players around 35 to just over 40 hours if you only concentrate on the main storyline. There’s more core story content,” says Hamaguchi.
Hamaguchi followed up by saying that “if there was a player who tried to complete and see everything in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, it would easily take them over 100 hours to see all of the content.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Hamaguchi also went on to explain a bit about how character “affinity” works in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Since the concept of this trilogy is meant to be a trio of standalone games, carrying over levels and Materia does not really make sense, but also specified that there is a similar kind of character affinity level system in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Hamaguchi then specified the Gondola Date Scene at the Gold Saucer as an example, saying that most people will have high expectations for that scene in particular. “To reflect that and give players what they want, we’ve created another system where all your actions throughout the story, both in the main story and in the side content on the world map, will have a reflection on that and you’ll be able to increase your affinity to different characters,” says Hamaguchi. “That is finally reflected in the gameplay as well, so if you’re looking for that kind of system, don’t worry, you’ll get exactly what you’re looking for.”
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is scheduled to launch on February 29, 2024, on PS5.
