Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut No Longer Being Sold in Philippines Steam Store

In a nutshell

  • Helldivers 2 received a lot of attention due to its PSN requirement fiasco, causing it to be delisted on Steam in over 150 countries
  • Sony’s next PC title, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, won’t have a PSN requirement for its single-player mode but will require PSN for its Legends Multiplayer
  • The game is now delisted from multiple countries on Steam that don’t have official PSN support, including the Philippines

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is no longer being sold in the Philippines Steam store, despite being available just a few hours ago (as of writing).

According to SteamDB, and simply by checking Steam, the Philippines is no longer a country that the package cannot be activated or purchased in, along with over 150 countries like Afghanistan, Guam, Pakistan, and more.

This is similar to the Helldivers 2 situation, where the game was pulled from Steam storefronts after the announcement to require linking a PSN account was made. The requirement was walked back after a few days, as Sony says they are still “learning what is best for PC players.”

“Helldivers fans — we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.”

In the meantime, pre-orders of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on Steam are being refunded as early as today.

This move is quite surprising because Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut has single-player content that doesn’t need to link to a PSN account. However, it also has an optional Legends multiplayer mode that will require a PSN account, which is probably the cause of the delisting.

While nothing is certain at this point as to why these decisions are being made, it does put a question mark on the future PC releases of Sony, even its single-player-only titles, especially as the PlayStation overlay comes into full swing.
