Bethesda acquisition was done to deliver great exclusive games on Game Pass platforms
Ever since the Bethesda acquisition by Microsoft, the burning question by the fans has always been on the topic of exclusivity. Which titles are gonna be exclusive to Xbox and not be on either PlayStation or Nintendo anymore? During the recent Bethesda Roundtable, it seems that Phil Spencer has cleared the air a bit.
The whole roundtable presentation was pretty lengthy, but gamers who wanted to find out about the state of exclusivity didn’t need to sit through the whole stream, as Spencer addressed it within the first 15 minutes of the show. Spencer opens up by saying “Obviously I can’t sit here and say every Bethesda game is exclusive, because we know that’s not true. There’s contractual obligations that we’re going to see through. We have games that exist on other platforms and we’re going to go and support those games on the platforms they’re on. There’s communities of players, we love those communities and will continue to invest in them, and even in the future there might be either contractual things or legacy on different platforms that we’ll go do.”
Spencer goes on to say “But if you’re an Xbox customer, the thing I want you to know is this is about delivering great exclusive games for you that ship on platforms where Game Pass exists. And that’s our goal, that’s why we’re doing this, that’s the root of this partnership that we’re building, and the creative capability we’ll be able to bring to market for Xbox customers is going to be the best it’s ever been for Xbox after we’re done here.”
While it isn’t crystal clear yet, there is at least some form of clarity that the new Bethesda games will be exclusive on platforms where Game Pass exists. Existing commitments and “legacy” games will continue to receive support, so Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo will still continue as planned on the PS5.
In other Bethesda-related news, 20 games will be added to Game Pass starting tomorrow.
