Soulframe is an Upcoming Free-to-play MMO From the Devs of Warframe
Digital Extremes, developers of the extremely popular Warframe, has announced an upcoming free-to-play MMO entitled Soulframe that is still in early development.
The announcement was made during TennoCon 2022 and reveals a fantasy setting that puts nature and adventure at the forefront, as inspired by the likes of Princess Mononoke and The NeverEnding Story, which specifically highlights “the collision between industry and nature.”
Steve Sinclair is stepping down from his 10-year director post for Warframe and will help lead this new project, which has yet to announce platforms or even a release window.
“Where ‘Warframe’ is focused on shooting, this one’s focused on melee,” says Sinclair in an interview with The Washington Post. “Where ‘Warframe’ is super fast and crazy high-speed, this one’s going to be a lot more slow and heavy. But it still has a lot of similarities to the genre that we have experience in.”
Creative Director Jeff Crookes also gave a few details about its hub world, saying that it will be open and more comparable to the recently added open-world planes from Warframe.
Combat in Soulframe will also be of a much slower melee-focused pace, but both Sinclair and Crookes say that heading into “Souls-like” territory is not on their mind as they went into the project.
Interested players can check out the official Soulframe website, where you’ll have to solve a simple puzzle which rewards you with a chance to sign up and reserve your character name.
