The OMG Review
Our review format is not your usual fare and we’ve broken it down into 3 very simple ratings!

“Buy it!” means that the game deserves a place in your collection. Be it day 1 or a slightly delayed purchase, it’s hard to go wrong with this title. In numbers, this is around an 8/10 and above.

“Wait for it…” means that while the game is good, it probably isn’t worth it at its day 1 price point. We suggest you wait for a sale before jumping in. In numbers, this is around a 5 – 7/10.

“Ignore it!” means that the game is not something we’d recommend playing, whether it be now or in the near future. Maybe ever. Let’s not even go to the numbers for this one.

Hot on the heels of the recently released Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on the PC just a few months ago comes Miles Morales, a much more streamlined follow-up that takes a fraction of the time to complete but is not any less emotional or entertaining.

It’s clear to see, even with Spider-Man Remastered, why Nixxes was picked up by Sony. As part of their push for more PC presence, Nixxes specializes in quality PC ports that make these games shine even on underpowered machines but will also run perfectly on hardware that can push the game to its limits.

Since we already reviewed the game before, we’ll be focusing our efforts on the new PC additions and how they translate to this release being the best place to play Miles Morales.

Great Power, Great Ray Tracing

First off, let’s check out the system requirements for Miles Morales:

marvel's spider-man miles morales system requirements

Nixxes has done a great job with Miles Morales, especially getting the minimum and recommended settings to where they are. At this point in the hardware cycle, a GTX 1060 shouldn’t be hard to come by and may even be a good choice for those that didn’t get to upgrade before the prices of GPUs skyrocketed. While not ideal, 1080p is decent enough, especially for a game like this that is more dependent on frame rates more than resolution.

Anything above that, though, and you’ll need to pay a premium for admission. All settings above the recommended level will require at least an RTX 3070 card, and if you’re hankering for some ray tracing goodness, you’ll need to upgrade accordingly. It goes without saying that the game is demanding, and great ray tracing will require great specs.

A couple of other requirements that pop out from the list are the 16 GB of RAM and the 75 GB SSD requirement for anything above the minimum.

Miles Morales also has a number of settings that will take advantage of your hardware, which you can see below:

Similar to Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales will offer players the standard suite of options: resolution adjustment, HDR, anti-aliasing, texture quality, and much more.

Carried over from Spider-Man Remastered are the great options that allow you to tinker with ray tracing. Obviously, you’ll need a capable card to even start customizing these, but it’s a great option because it gives players more control over their experience and should be standard moving forward.

As with Spider-Man Remastered, Miles Morales will also feature DualSense support, which is a great way to experience this game. While our standard recommendation would be to play this with a controller, KBM is equally competent because of its full-on button mapping options.

Lastly, Miles Morales brings extensive accessibility settings like QTE auto-complete, change button taps to holds, and more, allowing more players to enjoy the game their way.

Taken as a whole, all of these options that can customize the experience can be reason alone to play the game, especially if you have a rig that can support them.

Be Greater

We tested the game with a fairly decent setup. We imagine that many players might be looking at a similar range, especially considering the prices of parts these days:

  • Ryzen 5 5600x, 16 GB DDR4 3600 RAM, NVIDIA 1650, 1TB NVMe SSD, 27″ 1440p Monitor

On these specs, Miles Morales performs admirably. While 1440p is doable with some frame dips here and there, the game is completely playable especially if you plan to use the dynamic resolution scaling setting, allowing your PC to move around resolution targets to hit a specified frame rate.

Obviously, if you have a powerful rig, the only way to go is up, but this is a godsend for mid-tier systems or for those that can’t be bothered to fiddle around with settings. Our setup managed to squeeze around 60-80fps at 1080p, so similar rigs can expect smooth gameplay as long as they stay within the 1080p range.

General gameplay was steady at an average of 70-80fps, sometimes even hitting peaks of 90fps, while busier combat sequences filled with particles will see dips to around the high 60s, which isn’t bad at all.

What we liked:

  • Another fantastic port from Nixxes
  • DualSense Support
  • Stunning experience as long as your rig permits

What we didn’t like:

  • Ray tracing is an expensive ask
  • Some minor frame dips during busy sequences with our rig

Verdict: Buy It!

One-More-Game-Buy-1

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is another fantastic port from Nixxes and is finally available for a wider audience and for systems that will push visuals and performance to be greater.

If you already have a PS5, the only reason you’ll want to try this port out is if you have the rig to support max visual settings and ultrawide gameplay. It gets pretty expensive to hit this target, so a PS5 is a great alternative if you want to experience a good balance between visual fidelity and performance.

More than its gameplay, Miles Morales tells a tighter and more emotionally charged storyline coupled with a streamlined experience that some may prefer over the initial Spider-Man release. Miles is more relatable, and his journey to becoming greater is such an experience.
