Dragon’s Dogma 2 Introduces the Legendary and Riddle-loving Sphinx
Capcom and IGN have revealed details about one of the most unique monsters in Dragon’s Dogma 2, the riddle-loving Sphinx.
In an IGN First feature, game director Hideaki Itsuno and Lead Game Designer Kento Kinoshita discuss the role of the Sphinx in the game and how it incorporates riddles for players to solve.
This optional monster will present a one-of-a-kind challenge, with some players quite possibly not even finding the well-hidden monster at all during their adventures. Should players find the Sphinx, they will be treated to riddles that will require actions to solve instead of a question-and-answer riddle. The challenge here lies in the fact that you’ll only get one shot at each riddle or else be locked out of the rewards.
For Dragon’s Dogma 2 players who choose brawn over brains, battling it is indeed an option, but Itsuno-san says that “Defeating the Sphinx is a riddle in itself. We wanted to make the very question of whether it could be defeated or even fought into a mystery, and we’d like that to be a part of the fun players have dealing with the Sphinx and its riddles. Players will need to find the Sphinx in the first place, if they can. The journey to finding it might actually be the biggest mystery of all.”
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is scheduled to release on March 22, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
