The Nintendo Switch is on track to sell faster than the Wii and PS4
Nintendo has recently revealed its latest earnings report, and the results involving the Nintendo Switch are really eye-watering.
The Switch has now sold 84.59 million units after just 49 months in the market, which is a great number, but putting additional perspective makes it even more impressive.
Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad went on to further break it down, saying that the Nintendo Switch is selling faster than the Wii and PS4, two of the highest selling consoles in history. Not only that, it will also go on to breach the 100 million milestone faster than the aforementioned consoles. Considering the prevailing conditions at present, the numbers are truly mind-boggling to say the least.
In terms of software, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains at the top of the list for the Switch followed closely by Animal Crossing: New Horizons, both of which have sold over 30 million units each. Other titles in the top 10 include Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pokemon Sword and Shield, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Multiple reports of a “new” Nintendo Switch have been popping up in the past few months, saying that this improved version will be 4K capable when docked and will have an improved OLED screen. Certainly, these remain rumors for now, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Nintendo does announce a mid-generation refresh for the Switch, similar to what they’ve done with their previous handhelds like the 3DS. At a possibly higher price-point, can that new model sustain the momentum?
