Cyberpunk 2077 will run ‘surprisingly good’ on current-gen base models, CD Projekt Red assures

Remember that time CD Projekt Red announced that 21 day delay from November to December? There was a reason for that, as the studio needed time to ship 9 versions of the game at the same time with the extra challenge of working from home, as well as to further optimize the game for current-gen consoles. The delay seems to have done wonders, as the recent Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay footage from Xbox One X / Xbox Series X and PlayStation 4 Pro / 5 show pretty good results, and CDPR are happy with it.

In their recent conference call (transcribed by seekingalpha), president and CEO Adam Kicinski answered a question about how the game would perform on current gen base consoles since the footage that was show was that of the higher spec versions (PS4 Pro and Xbox One X). Kicinski confidently says “Of course, a bit lower than on pros, but surprisingly good, I would say for such a huge world. So, bit lower, but very good. That’s the answer.”

It would not be surprising that the base models won’t perform as well as their bigger brothers, especially not compared to the next-gen consoles, but it is indeed good news that the base models can somehow keep up. We can expect a few compromises here and there, maybe in resolution or frames or in other places, but having it playable to all current gen models would be huge for CDPR, reaching as much players as possible.

Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to release on December 10 for the PlayStation 4 / 5, Xbox One / Series, and PC.
