Balete City aims to be the first triple-A RPG from the Philippines

Filipino lore is filled with so many mystical elements that it’s not hard to find inspiration to use towards a project, whether a novel or a game. A group of talented young individuals have decided to make something out of it, and the results look very promising.

Balete City is a passion project led by Niley Bacolcol, who is a 27 year old creative designer. Niley has an inkling towards Philippine Mythology, and has come up with a graphic novel called Balete High, which tells the story of a senior high school student named Aki.

This novel served as his motivation to develop a triple-A title that includes various creatures of legend such as aswangs, kapres, and much more. Check out some of the work in progress screenshots from the prototype.

According to the developers, the game will be similar to God of War / The Witcher and they are planning to release this on the PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC on Steam.

Being an independent group of talents, Balete City does not have official funding from any studio, which is why they currently have a Patreon account set up, with a Kickstarter campaign coming soon. Interested parties can apply to be a tester or volunteer to help the team, all you got to do is to send them an email at baletecitygame@gmail.com.

We’re excited to see more of this game soon and we wish the development team good luck!
