Death Stranding has sold over 5 million copies on PS4 and PC

Kojima Productions have announced that as of March 2021, Death Stranding has officially sold over 5 million units, performing quite well from the expectations of the company.

KojiPro head of publishing Jay Boor shares in an interview with Gamesindustry.biz that “With Death Stranding being the first title developed out of Kojima Productions, from a sales perspective, it has performed quite well.”

Considering that the title was very polarizing in terms of reception from critics and players, 5 million is quite the accomplishment. In comparison, Horizon Zero Dawn sold over 10 million copies 2 years after its release. Ghost of Tsushima, on the other hand, has sold over 6.5 million copies as of earlier this year.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut for the PS5 is set to release on September 24, which will include more than just a visual update. Jay Boor shares that the game will introduce “new missions and added storylines, more weapons, vehicles and equipment, we’ve even added a racing mode and online leaderboards as well.”
