Street Fighter 6 – Difference Between Classic and Modern Controls
One of the bigger reveals during the recently concluded State of Play was for Street Fighter 6, showing off new characters and gameplay that got fans of the series really excited for its upcoming release. While it isn’t scheduled to launch until 2023, Capcom has shown off a new feature that may invite more newcomers to try the game out.
Street Fighter 6 Control Types
Street Fighter 6 will feature 2 control types that will benefit both veterans and newbies who will want to try out the game for the first time.
The classic control type is what Street Fighter vets are used to, and will feature the control scheme from previous titles, featuring buttons for every attack with come button combinations for good measure.
Modern control, which is a new feature to the game, will allow players to perform special attacks with only a button paired with directional input, making moves and combos much easier to use. Players who have difficulty performing the complex motions or will be playing for the first time will surely appreciate this.
Here’s a snippet from the PlayStation Blog:
For those who are worried that fighting game inputs are too complicated and just want to unleash your inner fighter, we have a solution in the form of a new control type option. First off, Classic Control Type is what veterans can expect to use for inputs with its six-button layout.
New to Street Fighter 6 is the Modern Control Type, which allows for easier inputs where a special move can be performed by combining the “Special Move” button with one directional input. This is perfect for newer players or those who may have found classic command inputs a bit too difficult in the past. With the Modern Control Type, your character will perform some of their flashiest (and best) attacks with just a few button presses.
Modern Control Type is optional, but we highly recommend new players give it a try!
Street Fighter 6 – Modern Control Type
To further dive into the modern control option, Capcom has released a nice graphic that shows how newbies will be able to take advantage of this control type to play competitively against other people.
In this example, players will be able to perform a Hadoken with a single button (Triangle, in this case), so repeatedly pressing this button will allow you to throw fireballs in succession without fail.
The interesting part comes with pairing a directional input with Triangle, allowing players to perform a Shoryuken (Triangle + Forward), Tatsumaki (Triangle + Back), or High Blade Kick (Triangle + Down).
Not only that, players will also be able to perform Super Arts and combos with ease thanks to the modern control scheme.
Of course, one obvious point of contention here is the use of the modern control type in competitive play, and while Capcom has not revealed details and restrictions about this yet, we’ll have to wait and see how this is addressed.
Street Fighter 6 is coming to the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, and PC in 2023.
