Dragon’s Dogma 2 Uncapped Framerate on Consoles, Confirms One Save File
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is nearing release, and Capcom is looking to have another hit on their hands if the previews are anything to go by. The action is deliberate and exciting, and while 60 fps is what players usually look for in current-gen consoles, Capcom’s latest will stick to an uncapped framerate.
According to Game Informer, director Hideaki Itsuno elaborated on his tweet from last month about the game releasing with uncapped framerates and revealed that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will not release with graphics or performance modes like most console games but will have only one mode with an uncapped framerate.
“The game has an uncapped framerate. We’re aiming to go at around or higher than 30 FPS. That is for consoles as well. There are some functions that you can turn on and off, but there aren’t multiple sets of options that you can change at once [likely alluding to visual presets seen in the options of other games on consoles today]. But yeah, the frame rate will come uncapped for all consoles.”
According to IGN’s preview of the game, they played the PS5 version and were averaging 31 fps with “dips during heavy moments of action” with the PS5 visual output set at 4K.
Additionally, further confirmation of the decision to make Dragon’s Dogma 2 only have one save file is to encourage exploration, according to Itsuno.
“It is indeed one save file. However, the game gives you more options. [It] gives you the option to load from the last inn you rested at, so in that regard, it’s not a game where you won’t have any possible way to go back. Regarding what the thinking was behind that, it’s really simple: we want to encourage exploration, and this is quite the opposite of what you get when you allow too much freedom in this regard.”
