Sony has announced a new system software update for the PS Portal, set to roll out globally starting March 18. The update introduces a 1080p High Quality mode, alongside several user experience refinements designed to make Remote Play and Cloud Streaming smoother and more engaging.

PS Portal 1080p High Quality Mode

Players can now toggle a 1080p High Quality mode during Remote Play and Cloud Streaming sessions. Compared to the standard 1080p mode, this new option delivers a higher bitrate, resulting in sharper visuals and smoother gameplay.

To enable it, users simply navigate to Quick Menu > Max Resolution > 1080p High Quality and restart their session.

Cloud Streaming Enhancements

Sony has also refined the Cloud Streaming experience with several usability improvements:

  • Product Detail Page Upgrade: Stream bundles now let players pick specific titles directly.
  • Game Invites: Clear on-screen notifications ensure invites aren’t missed mid-stream.
  • Trophy Notifications: Unlocks now display names, images, and special animations for platinum trophies.
  • Improved Search: A smoother interface with immediate keyboard access makes it easier to find games.

Smoother Onboarding

For new players, onboarding has been streamlined. Users can now create and sign in to PlayStation accounts by scanning a QR code with their mobile device, making setup faster and more intuitive.
