Final Fantasy VII Revelation Announced, Launches Spring 2027
In a nutshell
- Final Fantasy VII Revelation is the third and final game in the FFVII Remake trilogy.
- Launches Spring 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC (Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store).
- Features a fully explorable planet, new regions, new combat systems, and new playable characters.
Square Enix has officially revealed Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the concluding chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake project. The game launches in Spring 2027, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the original 1997 classic.
Revelation brings the saga to its climactic finale as Cloud and his companions face their last battle against Sephiroth, with the fate of the planet hanging in the balance.
A Planet on the Brink — The Final Battle Begins
The story picks up as a meteor scars the sky, planetary guardians awaken, and war erupts across the world. With Sephiroth nearing godhood, Cloud and the party take to the skies aboard the Highwind, preparing for a final confrontation that will decide everything.
Revelation is described as the largest-scale entry in the trilogy, with higher stakes, expanded worldbuilding, and a fully assembled cast.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation – Explore a Seamlessly Connected Open World
Final Fantasy VII Revelation features a freely explorable planet, allowing players to pilot the Highwind and parachute into any region seamlessly.
Newly introduced areas include:
- Mideel Region — A humid tropical rainforest surrounding the island of Mideel.
- Wutai Region — A beautifully crafted town of ninja descendants, featuring vermilion-painted structures and traditional rooftops.
This marks the first time the entire FFVII world is accessible in a single, connected open-world experience.
New Playable Characters and Evolved Combat
Revelation expands the party roster with Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind as fully playable characters, each bringing unique combat styles:
- Vincent — A gunslinger with rapid-fire gunplay and beast transformations.
- Cid — A dragoon-style lancer capable of both single-target bursts and sweeping AoE attacks.
The game also introduces a new system called FITS, allowing players to change combat styles by equipping different outfits that unlock new abilities — including classic FF job inspirations like Warrior and Black Mage.
New Threats: Planetary Weapons Awaken
The expansion of the world also brings new dangers. The colossal Weapons, planetary guardians awakened to defend against Meteor, return as major threats Cloud’s party must confront.
These encounters are designed to push the hybrid action‑command combat system to its most polished and strategic form yet.
