Bravely Default II and Persona 5 Strikers headline game releases for February
Can you believe it’s February already? The releases this month are bookended heavy at the start and the end, and is a stronger month in terms of releases compared to a rather slow January.
Interestingly, One of the games on the list, Destruction AllStars, was a PS5 launch title that was delayed and then announced as a free PS Plus game for February 2021. That being said if you have a PS Plus account, February is a great month for you thanks to Control Ultimate Edition and Concrete Genie rounding up that list.
Here are ten titles to round off this short month, so let’s get to it.
Pick of The Month 1: Bravely Default II
Release Date: February 26, 2021
Platform: Nintendo Switch
With two fantastic demos out and not many JRPGs in circulation, Bravely Default II is one of my most anticipated games even dating back to last year. If the Final Demo is any indication, the narrative has greatly improved from the first game and the game system is challenging but fair. If I had more than five hours to explore different builds from the Final Demo, it would’ve loved it a little bit more, but I guess I have to wait for its actual launch.
Destruction AllStars
Release Date: February 2, 2021
Platform: Playstation 5
I’m not a big fan of multiplayer games, but this title gives me a Burnout Paradise meets Rocket League vibes. With its Fortnite/Overwatch skins, you could be sure there’s a lot of fun to be had with the starting price of free with a PS Plus account. With Fall Guys and Among Us showing that this type of multiplayer is a fun way to get together with some friends during this lockdown, February starts strong with this title.
Control Ultimate Edition
Release Date: February 2, 2021
Platform: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One X|S, PC
The initial announcement was met with the ire of the public, as the next-gen upgrades were seemingly locked behind the Ultimate Edition of the game instead of being given for free. Nevertheless, Control is a top-notch action adventure game that will keep you hooked into your sets from start to finish. It also contains all DLC and updates since it was first released.
YS IX: Monstrum Nox Trailer
Release Date: February 2, 2021
Platform: Playstation 4
This long-running RPG seems to have quite an interesting premise to it. Instead of the hero saves the world story line, they went with a more intrigue based plot. It surrounds a mystery regarding the silent protagonist’s curse and the secrets the Imperial City is keeping to protect itself. Curious? It’s out at the start of the month!
There’s literally no reason not to play this now since it will be free on PS Plus!
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood
Release Date: February 4, 2021
Platform: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One X|S, PC
With Bloodlines 2 being delayed until God knows when, another World of Darkness property has a game being released for next month. And unlike the cool open world RPG that Bloodlines offer, this is more a linear action-adventure werewolf game. Gameplay styles switch between the regular human form, the wolf stealth mode, and finally the werewolf battle mode. It’s quite interesting to see another World of Darkness property making its way to the gaming landscape from their tabletop origins.
Nioh 1+2 Remastered: Complete Edition
Release Date: February 5, 2021
Platform: PS5, PS4, PC
With Elden Ring still in the horizon and nothing else in the way of Souls-like games to bide you through at the start of the year save for Demon’s Souls if you have a PS5, maybe it’s good to catch up with Nioh, a souls-clone that does everything right. Remastered on the PS5 and taking advantage of its SSD and upgraded graphics from the PS4, it’s to revisit or maybe explore this title on the newest platform.
Little Nightmares 2
Release Date: February 11, 2021
Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
Fans of the original would remember this horror puzzle platformer and the sequel still gives us creepy vibes. It looks interesting enough if you enjoyed platformers such as Limbo and Inside. The demo ramps up from atmospheric creepy to an intense feeling of dread once you come across its great many antagonists, and you really have to use your wits to figure out how to get past the area, else keep dying.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Release Date: February 12, 2021
Platform: Nintendo Switch
We are due another Mario game and very soon, Nintendo fans will get their wish with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. Maybe it’ll be best to mix it up with the Mario Red and Blue Edition Switch to celebrate its release. Needless to say, if you enjoyed all the Mario platformers, you’ll surely have fun with this one.
Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection
Release Date: February 25, 2021
Platform: Nintendo Switch
This frustratingly difficult platformer back in the day makes its way back to Nintendo Switch for another revisit in its punishing but immensely fun world. With remastered graphics on the Switch, at least when you die and die again, the graphics will be glorious! Coming out at the end of February.
Pick of The Month 2: Persona 5 Strikers
Release Date: February 23, 2021
Platform: PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC
Known in the west as Persona 5 Strikers, it almost sounds like a football game and why not, they already have a dancing game. Jokes aside, this latest title boasts a third-person action hack-and-slash mechanic akin to Dynasty Warriors. With Nintendo jumping into the craze with the recently released Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, why not have Joker and the Phantom Thieves do the same thing?
