Konami announces eFootball, the free-to-play replacement to PES

Say goodbye to Pro Evolution Soccer as Konami have officially rebranded the game as a free-to-play digital only title named eFootball, which is set to launch sometime this Autumn for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC, with mobile versions soon to follow.

Rebuilt using Unreal Engine, the game will feature “Motion Matching”, which will provide the game with realistic animations and gameplay detail.

Konami will regularly add new content after launch such as cross-play matchmaking, and certain game modes will be sold as optional DLC, giving players the freedom to build an experience that follows their interests.

eFootball’s roadmap looks promising, with a match-pass system, full cross-play, and mobile controller support being implemented throughout the year.

Konami has since shifted some of its properties to a free-to-play model, with the most recent one being Super Bomberman R Online, and it remains to be seen if more IP’s follow suit.

eFootball is set to launch later this year for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC, with mobile versions soon to follow.
