Switch 2 Pre-orders Delayed in the US Due to Trump Tariffs

Nintendo has announced that pre-orders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 in the US have been delayed and will not start on April 9, 2025.

Switch 2 Pre-orders Delayed

In a statement made to Gamespot, the company says that it will first asses the potential impact of the tariffs that US President Donald Trump has recently imposed. Despite this, Nintendo says the June 5 launch date will remain.

“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”

It remains unclear what the direct results of this may be, but since Nintendo didn’t mention anything about the price remaining unchanged, the company could be recomputing the price at which the console will be sold.

Nintendo initially announced that the Switch 2 would cost $449.99, while a version bundled with Mario Kart World would retail for $499.99. The accessories have also been priced, with the Pro Controller retailing for $79.99, while a pair of Joy-Cons will go for $89.99.

Meanwhile, in Southeast Asia, the Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to release in July-September in the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia.
