Ghost of Tsushima may have the most impressive Metacritic user score of this console generation

There is no discounting that Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch is a great game. We loved it, the Japanese loved it, and in fact it has broken all sorts of sales records soon after it launched. While receiving generally positive reviews from critics, scoring an 83 over 115 reviews, it isn’t anything noteworthy to talk about, compared to another recent exclusive in The Last of Us Part II, which has settled at 94.

What is mind-blowing, on the other hand, is the user score.

Sitting at a score of 9.3 over a whopping 15,203 ratings as of this writing, Forbes did the math and has gone on to say that the game is actually the highest rated game of the console generation, with a few caveats of course.

The clincher is that while 9.3 isn’t as impressive as other games with a possibly higher score, it is the amount of user reviews considered as a whole that makes this so astounding. In comparison, The Witcher 3 for the PlayStation for as a 9.2 user score over 15,337 ratings, so it is about right to say that Ghost of Tsushima is loved by many. Games that have scored higher, according to Forbes, don’t even have a user score review count close to 5,000 or 10,000, so getting a 9.3 over 15,000 reviews is quite the feat.

Does this mean that it is the game of the generation? Far from it. Others would argue their favorite titles, and there are quite a lot to choose from, but what cannot be argued is the general appeal that Ghost of Tsushima had with a lot of players.

Sony ending the generation with this Sucker Punch exclusive is one of the factors that the PlayStation is approaching the next generation at full speed, and with other exclusives like Spider-Man: Miles Morales headlining the PS5, we can only expect good things to come as the year, and the console generation, draws to a close.
