Is The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword headed to the Switch?

The Nintendo Switch has had to rely on numerous ports and re-releases to bump up its library of games. Pikmin 3 Deluxe was announced just recently and this time, another Wii game, in particular, may be headed to the Switch if this recent Amazon listing is to be believed.

Resident Twitter deals guy Wario64 spotted a Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword listing for the Switch, and while it seems like a typical placeholder of some sort, it’s weird that the link actually allows you to pre-order the title.

As of this writing, the Amazon UK link is still up but it does feature a number of questionable details. First, the game is priced at £69.99, which is already a full priced Switch title, even more. While questionable for a port, let’s not forget Pikmin 3 Deluxe, a Wii U port that was cheaper before it was removed and announced for the Switch at full price again. The listing also shows a January 1, 2030 release date, which is most definitely a placeholder value for now.

It is also not the most beloved of Zelda titles for most players, owing to the fact that it required a Wii MotionPlus peripheral, which a people found was a cheap gimmick. While it wasn’t totally a forgettable experience, many would argue that there are a lot of other top tier Zelda titles that could be ported first.

Eiji Aonuma, director and producer for a number of Zelda games like Majora’s Mask and Ocarina of Time, did tease Skyward Sword a couple of years ago during a live Zelda concert, and with all the recent Wii and Wii U releases for the Switch like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that another port would release for the Switch.

For now, treating the Amazon listing as a placeholder is the smartest thing to do. Given the fact that Nintendo haven’t bared any Holiday plans yet is sure to make fans cling on to whatever information is out there at the moment, with this being one of them. Hopefully, Nintendo throws us a bone here and give us that long overdue Nintendo Direct. And maybe an official Skyward Sword announcement.
