Anthem Next officially cancelled

A few weeks ago, Electronic Arts bigwigs were to decide the fate of the rework coming to Anthem Next, the next wave of updates set to hopefully revitalize the troubled live service title. Now, any hopes that Anthem would follow the redemption story of No Man’s Sky have been dashed, as according to the BioWare blog, Anthem Next has been cancelled.

It is noted that the strained conditions of working from home during the pandemic as one of the core reasons of cancellation as quote:

2020 was a year unlike any other however and while we continue to make progress against all our game projects at BioWare, working from home during the pandemic has had an impact on our productivity and not everything we had planned as a studio before COVID-19 can be accomplished without putting undue stress on our teams.

While they are keeping the live service and servers running, there will be no further updates to this IP moving forward. Dailey thanks the passionate community who has stood by this IP through the good and challenging times together.

This decision did not come easy, as one might expect, and the team handling this will move on to help with the upcoming Dragon Age and Mass Effect titles.

Anthem launched back in 2019 to the disappointment of the fans. Anthem showed a lot of promise, but was widely documented to have a rocky start, which prompted the reboot.
