God of War finally gets a free PS5 update

God of War 2018 is quite the curious case for the PS5. Unlike Ghost of Tsushima that has already received an update even prior to the PS5 launch, God of War was stuck in a bit of a bind due to some software updates that it had patched during its time on the PS4. As such, if you were to play God of War digitally on the PS5, you’ll be stuck with a less than ideal performance unlike if you were to play it on an unpatched disc (while not applying the new updates).

Well, worry no more, as Santa Monica Studios have just recently announced that the game will indeed receive a patch on February 2 (either later tonight or tomorrow in local time), that will give the game the PS5 boost it needs. Instead of making you choose between performance and resolution modes, this update will be a “new default setting that will offer the best of both performance and resolution to our PlayStation 5 players!”

The enhanced performance experience update will include:

  • Syncs to 60 FPS
  • 4K Checkerboard Resolution
  • 2160p

This is great news for first-time players and repeat adventurers who will be playing this epic masterpiece, one which you can actually download for free on your PS5 via the PS Plus Collection.

Now where is that Bloodborne patch…
