Looking Back At 4 PS4 Games To Get You Hyped For Their Sequels

The PS5 is already one year old, can you believe it? Despite being out for a year, there are still millions of players out there looking forward to owning Sony’s latest offering that has big shoes to fill coming from a record-breaking PS4 generation.

2021 was definitely a big year for gaming but 2022 is only going to get bigger and better, especially with some high-profile releases such as Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok.

The wait could get unbearable for some people, but here are some PS4 games to play again before jumping into the latest releases from PlayStation!

Must-play PS4 games before playing their sequels

God of War (2018)

God of War: Ragnarok is one of the most highly anticipated releases for 2022, and for good reason.

2018’s award-winning God of War set the bar very high and is one of the flagship titles of the PlayStation brand. Heavily regarded as a game-changer not only for the platform but for the entire industry, God of War is an extremely polished action-adventure game that follows father and son Kratos and Atreus with a mythological backdrop that focuses on the journey and characterization of the two main protagonists.

With Ragnarok coming for both the PS4 and PS5, replaying the first game is the best way to truly enjoy what the next installment of God of War has to offer.

Horizon Zero Dawn (2017)

We’re a few months away from one of Sony’s big titles for 2022 but until then, looking back at how Aloy started her journey is a great way to get pumped up for the sequel.

2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn was a critically acclaimed title for the PS4 which follows the red-headed heroine Aloy in what seems to be a world much like ours centuries ago, except that it’s been taken over by machine beasts.

There’s literally no reason to not play it because the game, along with its Frozen Wilds DLC, was given away for free earlier this year as a part of Sony’s play at home initiative.

Horizon Forbidden West is set to release on February 18, 2022.

Ratchet & Clank (2016)

The intergalactic duo of Ratchet & Clank have been at it for quite a long time now, but if there was any title that would be worth another trip down memory lane, checking out Ratchet & Clank 2016 is a good idea.

As a reimagining of the original classic PlayStation 2 game released over a decade before, it features much of the same gameplay mechanics, puzzle types, and weapons, but with a sleek look and polish made for today’s audience.

After that, there’s no more looking back as the dynamic duo goes full next-gen with Rift Apart, a new adventure with breathtaking visuals and fast action that takes advantage of the improved hardware from the PS5.

The Last of Us Remastered

Okay so technically, this was a PS3 title, but its remastered version (the best way to play it, by the way) was released for the PS4 in full HD and 60fps.

Naughty Dog’s 2013 masterpiece The Last of Us garnered over 200 game of the year awards, and rightly so, with critics consistently hailing it the best game of the generation.

The first game lets you fill the shoes of the main character Joel, a survivor navigating United States after a pandemic changed the face of humanity alongside another survivor named Ellie. 2020’s The Last of Us Part II further builds on the world established by its predecessor, with some brave twists and turns in the narrative that will surely keep you glued to your seat.
