Space Channel 5 and Comix Zone Film Adaptations Confirmed by SEGA
SEGA has announced that they are partnering with Picturestart to create film adaptations for Space Channel 5 and Comix Zone, both classic titles from the 90s.
Space Channel 5 is being described as a “comedy/dance adaptation” that will tell the story of a fast-food worker that is recruited by a reporter from the future to save the world from aliens using the power of silly viral dances. This sounds like it was inspired by the recent trends from Fortnite and Tiktok, so we’ll have to see how this one turns out.
The Comix Zone film will tell the story of a jaded comic book creator who must team up with a “young, queer writer of color” to battle it out against a supervillain and stop him from spreading destruction. This adaptation will be written by Mae Catt (Young Justice and Transformers: War for Cybertron).
Sonic the Hedgehog movie producer Toru Nakahara will be on board to produce both of the aforementioned films.
Takumi Yoshinaga, the writer of the original Space Channel game, will also be joining the team for the said title, while Kagasei Shimomura, producer of Bayonetta, will join the Comix Zone team.
In other SEGA movie-related news, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is slated for a December 2024 release.
