Stellar Blade’s Nier Automata DLC is a Match Made in Fan Service Heaven

Stellar Blade stole our hearts and imaginations earlier this year, earning the moniker of “Korean Nier Automata” because of its many aspects that have been inspired by the modern masterpiece. Thus, it only comes naturally for its DLC to feature such a collaboration between Yoko Taro and Kim Hyung Tae, who have made this a reality, and it’s a fantastic gift to all the fans of both franchises.

What’s Included in Stellar Blade’s Nier Automata DLC

At the heart of this collaboration is the appearance of Emil’s shop, featuring Emil himself, voiced by Maii Kadowaki. This iconic character from the NieR universe provides a fitting backdrop for this timely collaboration.

It’s a nice touch as well that you aren’t simply handed the new cosmetics on a silver platter. Emil will roam around the map and you’ll need to catch him to gain access to his wares as long as you have enough Stellar Tears, items you can gather around certain areas in the world.

Additionally, the DLC includes eleven special collaboration items to collect, blending the best elements of both games. The fan service brought about by this DLC is absolutely insane and very much welcome, and fans of both franchises will find this a must-have addition to their collection. The whole process feels rewarding, and earning everything rather than just automatically getting them is a great touch.

Seeing Eve don the 2B costume is quite the sight, even in a literal and obvious sense. The cosmetic fits her perfectly, and you can really see who the Stellar Blade protagonist takes after because it looks so natural on her. There’s even a special easter egg of sorts where wearing the 2B suit as you revive yourself from death will remove the skirt, making reviving a habit anyone will want to get into.

Beyond the NieR Automata collaboration, the DLC also introduces a general update with four extra costumes and a new accessory: The Symbol of Legacy. While primarily cosmetic, this accessory alters the appearance and presentation of your Tachy Mode, a skill players will find useful in later boss battles.

Tachy Mode turbocharges Eve’s combat capabilities in Stellar Blade, driving up her speed and damage to make boss battles a bit more bearable. It goes without saying that you’ll be using this skill often, so seeing a different angel-like cosmetic is more than welcome.

Photo Mode and More!

Stellar Blade is visually stunning, and the addition of a photo mode allows players to capture and preserve their adventures with various filters and presets. Take note, though, because the Photo Mode comes as part of a free update and not the actual DLC, but it makes for the perfect pair.

For a game that looked this good, mostly because of our stunning protagonist, seeing a photo mode not make it into the initial launch was such a travesty. With the arrival of this update and the DLC, players can get up close and personal with Eve, along with capturing many Instagrammable moments.

Players will also get a Photo Mode Challenge, encouraging players to embark on a shutterbug chase to collect key images throughout the world. Completing these challenges rewards players with a camera, adding an extra layer of fun to the game.

Finally, players can enjoy more fun at the campsites by selecting specific tunes to listen to on the turntable. Other patch updates include lip-sync support for additional languages and a “No Ponytail” feature for character customization.

Overall, this DLC is a great addition to an already feature-filled title that was made even more robust due to a massive update, and it’s easy to see that Nier Automata is simply a perfect pairing for Eve. 2B fits perfectly in the world, and the way Eve dons the cosmetic has been handled with utmost care by both parties.

At a measly $10 price, this DLC is almost a necessity that further elevates the Stellar Blade experience.
