Bungie has revealed new details for its upcoming team-based extraction shooter, Marathon, including its September 23, 2025 release date for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.

A closed alpha test will start on April 23, and interested players can sign up on Discord.

Marathon Gameplay

Marathon drops players in a high-stakes competition where teams of three explore Tau Ceti IV for powerful weapons and equipment left behind. Facing AI security forces, otherworldly threats, and rival Runner crews, players must outmaneuver all obstacles to claim valuable loot. Every run won’t be the same, but escaping with the scavenged gear will be greatly rewarding and will strengthen players for future runs.

Players are called Runners—cybernetic mercenaries who have forsaken their human forms for biosynthetic shells, granting them the ability to transfer consciousness upon death. Players select from a roster of Runners, each with unique abilities and playstyles, then refine their approach by collecting implants and equipment to enhance mobility, strength, and strategy.

Marathon builds upon Bungie’s legacy of deep storytelling, allowing players to uncover the mysteries of Tau Ceti IV and its connections to the original Marathon trilogy.
