Park Beyond Preview – Imagination is the Only Limit
Park Beyond is an upcoming theme park simulator game from Limbic Entertainment, the minds behind titles like Tropico 6 and Might and Magic Heroes VII.
Scheduled to release for the PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, the game will allow players to create “impossified” rides – defying the laws of physics and regular conventions – resulting in a park that’s only limited by your imagination.
Ahead of its release later this year, we got to try out a small portion of the game thanks to Bandai Namco and Limbic Entertainment, giving us a taste of what impossification is all about and how it’s looking to take simulator games to the next level.
The first part of the preview was a quick tour of coaster creation, and through this tutorial of sorts, players will already get an idea of what shenanigans can be done in the game.
The controls were fairly simple, and though a lot of the outrageous things have not been introduced yet, you can already see the potential for craziness. The tutorial basically teaches players how to use certain modules, and one thing that makes Park Beyond different from other simulation management games is how it still abides by certain logical rules.
If you’re starting from a descent, your coaster will pick up enough speed to take it through the course, but if the next part is a steep climb, your momentum might not be enough. This is where the chain link track comes into play, as it will provide a minimum speed for your coaster as it pulls them up steep climbs or even just to build momentum.
There are things like these that players will need to consider in Park Beyond, which is surprisingly easy to do thanks to the intuitive control scheme. With a click of a button, players can easily shift the height, the curvature of the track, and much more, making creating your dream park as simple as possible.
Park Beyond also gives players access to modules that allow for impossification, something we’ve been mentioning earlier. One example of this is a cannon module, allowing coasters to launch themselves onto a faraway track for a more exciting ride through donut signs and tunnels that wouldn’t usually pass safety guidelines.
That’s not all, as the preview also allowed us to take a look at a tunneling mechanic, giving players the power to bore through mountains to create ride segments that only add more ways to make your ride more outrageous. There are quite a number of tools to play around with, so the possibilities are practically endless.
We’re guessing that the story-driven campaign mode will be an extended tutorial that will walk you through the many nooks and crannies of the game, but if you want to go wild, there’s also the sandbox mode, giving you free rein to do whatever you want.
Creativity and impossification lie at the heart of Park Beyond, where players are given complete control over how to build the park of their dreams. This particular preview simply covered coasters, so it would be very interesting to see how much more we can play around with once more rides and modules are made available.
As I mentioned in a previous article, I’m not really the type to go for simulation management games, but seeing the creativity and potential of Park Beyond makes it a really intriguing prospect.
Park Beyond is scheduled to launch later this year for the PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
